Every snowflake begins high within the clouds, where changing temperatures and humidity shape its intricate crystalline structure. By the time it reaches the ground, each crystal carries a tiny record of the atmospheric conditions it experienced along the way.
During active Colorado winter storms, I carefully collect snowflakes by hand and preserve them while working below freezing. Temperature, humidity, wind, light, and even a single breath can affect a delicate snow crystal before preservation is complete.
Once preserved, something that would ordinarily disappear within moments becomes a lasting piece of nature, science, and art.
No two snowflakes are ever exactly alike. Each capture preserves one individual moment from a Colorado snowfall, making every finished piece completely one of a kind.
