Every snowflake begins high within the clouds, where changing temperatures and humidity shape its intricate crystalline structure. By the time it reaches the ground, each crystal carries a tiny record of the atmospheric conditions it experienced along the way.
During active Colorado winter storms, I carefully collect snowflakes by hand and preserve them while working below freezing. Temperature, humidity, wind, light, and even a single breath can affect these delicate formations before preservation is complete.
What I especially love about these mountain-inspired pieces is the way they bring together the vastness of a landscape and the tiny details of a single snow crystal.
The mountain silhouette creates a simple, peaceful backdrop, while the preserved snowflake offers a closer look at the extraordinary geometry hidden within winter weather.
Together, they preserve a little moment of Colorado winter, one that can be admired long after the snowfall has disappeared.
No two snowflakes are ever exactly alike, making every finished piece completely one of a kind.
